What are the definitions of the Google Business Profile Performance Metrics?

This article will review the definitions of all Performance Metrics.

In 2023, Google made some significant changes to GBP insight metrics. These changes include:

  1. Business Profile Views Counted Differently: Views are now only counted once per user per day, and only if the user actually visits your Business Profile, not just sees it in search results.

  2. Directions Counted Differently: Unique direction requests are now tallied differently to account for spam and cancellations, potentially leading to a decline in reported direction requests.

  3. New Metrics Added: Google introduced new metrics such as Messages, Bookings, Hotel bookings, Food orders, and Food menu clicks via your GBP listing, as well as distinguishing between mobile and desktop views in Google Search and Maps.

  4. Some Metrics Removed: Google discontinued several metrics including Overall Rating, Total Searches, Direct Searches, and Total Views, among others. Historical data for these metrics is still available.

  5. Metrics that Stayed the Same: Website clicks, Directions, and Calls metrics are still available, though their names have changed slightly.

  6. Google Is Continually Updating Maps & GBP: Google has made many other updates to Maps and GBP, including image carousels, attributes, social media links, and CTA buttons for third-party booking software.

To assist you with these metric changes, you can view the definitions for all Performance Metrics here:

Total Actions: Total of all interactions within a profile, such as calls, bookings, messages, etc.

Website Visits: Number of clicks on the website link on your Business Profile.

Mobile Calls: Number of clicks on the call button on your Business Profile. This metric will only record direct clicks on this button - it will not track calls that were made elsewhere, for instance, when a customer dials the phone independently. Provide your phone number on your listing to start tracking this metric.

Driving Directions: Number of unique customers who request directions to your business. Google changed how they tally unique direction requests to account for things like multi-tapping, direction request cancellation, and spam.

Listing Views: Number of times customers viewed your Business Profile. Only unique views are counted: one view per customer per day.

Google Maps - Desktop: Number of customers that viewed your Business Profile on Google Maps using a desktop.

Google Maps - Mobile: Number of customers that viewed your Business Profile on Google Maps using a mobile device.

Google Search - Desktop: Number of customers that viewed your Business Profile on Google Search using a desktop.

Google Search - Mobile: Number of customers that viewed your Business Profile on Google Search using a mobile device.

Conversations: Number of unique conversations through messages on your Business Profile.

Bookings: Number of completed bookings by customers. To get data for this metric, you need to set up bookings through a provider.

Food Orders: Food orders placed for pickup or delivery directly from your Business Profile with an Order with Google Provider. Review Order with Google providers.

Food Menu Clicks: Number of clicks on the menu content per user per day. It includes menu photos, menu URLs, and structured menu data on your Business Profile.
